Walk-Around Inspection
Walking up to your machine first thing is a great time to perform a walk-around inspection.
- Open the engine hood and covers to check for combustible materials around the engine and battery, and inspect for any fluid leaks around the engine and hydraulic systems.
- Inspect the exterior of the machine for any damaged components, including lights, attachments, hoses, bucket teeth, and other parts such as the track rollers, idlers, canopy, and cab.
- Check the windshield, seat, seat belt, monitor, instruments, and switches for damage, and clean or replace any damaged or worn parts before operation.
Daily Inspection
Manufacturers recommend a daily inspection to check your machine every 10 hours, typically at the start of each workday.
- Check the coolant level in the reserve tank and refill if needed.
- Pull out the dipstick to check the engine oil level, wiping the dipstick before reinserting.
- Inspect the dust indicator for any sign that the red piston is sticking out.
- Inspect the water separator to see if the red indicator ring is floating, which signals it needs to be cleaned after draining the water.
- Check your fuel level and refill if necessary, monitoring the sight gauge while refueling.
- Inspect the hydraulic oil level using the sight gauge. Refill if necessary, bearing in mind that levels fluctuate with temperature.
- Lubricate all grease nipples using a grease gun, making sure to wipe off expelled grease.
