Keep reading for a comprehensive maintenance guide for your machine, based on the JLG 430LRT Operation and Safety Manual.

Walk-Around Inspection (Before Each Use)

  • Check for hydraulic leaks, loose hardware, or structural damage on the chassis and scissor arms
  • Ensure tires and wheels are secure with no missing lug nuts or significant tire damage
  • Inspect for damaged decals or safety labels and replace them if missing or illegible
  • Check batteries and cables for corrosion or loose connections
  • Inspect platform rails, entry gate, control panel decals, and gate latch function
  • Check fluid levels (engine oil, hydraulic oil, and fuel) and top off if necessary
  • Remove debris from platform and ensure there are no slipping hazards

Daily (Pre-Start) Maintenance

  • Check engine oil with the dipstick and maintain oil within recommended marks, using the correct viscosity specified in the Kubota engine guidelines
  • Inspect hydraulic oil level to ensure fluid is visible in the reservoir’s sight windows and add recommended hydraulic fluid if needed
  • Check the fuel gauge and confirm the chosen fuel source (gasoline or LP) has an adequate supply
  • Squeeze the air filter evacuator valve on the housing to clear out dust and debris
  • Inspect battery wiring for corrosion or wear and tighten connections if loose
  • Confirm that emergency stop switches (ground and platform) function properly

After First 50 Hours

  • Replace the hydraulic charge filter element to remove initial break-in contaminants
  • Perform a thorough inspection of tires, hubs, battery, hoses, and decals
  • Check scissor arm wear pads and the safety prop linkage for unusual wear

Monthly or Every 50 Hours

  • Lubricate scissor arm sliding wear pads with multipurpose grease and inspect for damage or excessive wear
  • Lightly grease pivot points, linkages, and latches as needed

Every 150 Hours or 3 Months (Frequent Inspection)

  • Perform the Frequent Inspection outlined in Section 2 of the manual, checking all structural components, cylinders, pins, and safety systems
  • Test the oscillating axle lockout cylinder function and drive or steer controls on a suitable grade
  • Check all function speeds and confirm the tilt alarm and horn operate properly

Every 200 Hours or Annually (Engine Oil and Filter)

  • Change engine oil and replace the spin-on filter using oil that meets API CF (diesel) or API SL (dual-fuel), matching the ambient temperature range
  • Inspect spark plugs (dual-fuel) or glow plugs (diesel), clean or replace according to condition

Every 300 Hours or 6 Months

  • Replace the hydraulic charge filter again if 300 hours have passed since the last change
  • Inspect the entire hydraulic system for leaks or damage, paying close attention to hoses and fittings

Every 500 Hours or Annually

  • Replace the diesel fuel and water separator element if equipped, draining collected water daily
  • Inspect fuel system lines and vents for contamination or leaks

Every 600 Hours or Annually (Diesel Fuel Strainer)

  • Replace the diesel in-line fuel strainer mounted near the fuel tank

Every 2 Years or 1200 Hours

  • Drain and refill drive hubs with extreme pressure gear lube (EPGL) and inspect for wear or damage
  • Change hydraulic fluid (API GL-3) and clean the hydraulic tank if necessary

As-Needed Maintenance

  • Inspect tires for cuts or excessive wear and replace foam-filled tires if damaged beyond acceptable limits, torquing wheel lug nuts to 170 ft-lb (230 N·m)
  • Maintain correct function of platform rails and gates, ensuring the latch works properly and replacing missing pins
  • Keep platform extensions and rollers clean, and fully retract extensions before lowering the scissor arms
  • Close the hand valve on the propane tank for dual-fuel machines and run engine until stall before disconnecting lines, replacing any leaking hoses
